Wave goodbye to Monica the rhino, as she embarks on her next journey in beautiful San Diego.

The move comes in part due to recommendations from the Association of Zoos and Aquarium's and Species Survival Plan. The objective of Species Survival Plans is to ensure the safety and survival of certain breeds of animals who are endangered.

"Monica has a good chance of becoming a successful mother to many rhinos and contributing to the survival of this important species. And, while we will miss her we are thrilled to be a participant in this SSP recommendation" says Buffalo Zoo President and CEO Donna M. Fernandes, Ph.D.

The Indian rhinoceros was born at the Buffalo Zoo back in June of 2014. Monica is scheduled to leave the Buffalo Zoo by the end of October.
