A former Genesee County Sheriff's deputy has been charged with striking a 9-year-old child, causing injuries.

Child Protective Services informed the Bureau of Criminal Investigation about the child abuse case. An investigation revealed that 50-year-old John Duyssen allegedly struck the 9-year-old. The child's gender is unknown. It is unclear if the child is related to Duyssen.

Duyssen was arrested and arraigned in Bergen Court on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment. An order of protection was issued and he was released.

The Stafford man is due back in the Town of Leroy Court later in December. Duyssen is currently the Town Justice at the Town of Leroy Court.
