Deputies in the Erie County Sheriff’s Office are mourning the death of a retired K9 officer.
K9 Cerros worked with the sheriff’s office for seven years before his retirement in 2014. He helped identify contraband with the Jail Management Division. Over the years, Cerros uncovered large quantities of marijuana, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines that would otherwise have been smuggled into jails in Erie County.
When he wasn’t busy finding drugs, Cerros and his human partner, Deputy Anthony Burdzy, visited area schools, interacting with kids, and assisted in search demonstrations throughout Western New York.
Cerros passed away last Friday after an illness.
