Potentially harmful Blue-Green Algae Blossoms (HAB) have been discovered in Hyde Park Lake.
Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster issued a Bloom Notice for the lake after HAB was discovered in an upper-eastern portion of the lake near Gill Creek.
Though signage has been posted in the appropriate area warning against contact with the blooms, Mayor Dyster advises residents and pets avoid touching any water that looks like spilled paint or pea soup. Exposure to the blooms can be harmful.
Mayor Dyster and city officials are working with the appropriate authorities to monitor the situation. Anyone taking part in recreational activities in or along the water are asked to avoid these areas until further notice.
