A team of rescuers saved a deer trapped on an ice-covered pond behind the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens in South Buffalo.
Members of the SPCA Animal Rescue team worked with Buffalo firefighters, Buffalo police and others to reach the deer - a small, young buck - just before noon.
The deer's hooves broke through the ice around 8 a.m., stranding the animal in the bitter cold.
It will now be treated for hypothermia at the SPCA of Erie County.
