Driver mistakes black bear for 'very large dog'

A motorist driving along West Main Street in the town of Attica reported a black bear in the roadway to police early Friday morning. 

Police say the motorist originally thought the black bear was a 'very large dog' before he slowed down and realized it was a bear. 

The bear was reported to be roaming around Bunnel Street and West Main Street. Police ask you to never approach a bear or use noise tactics to scare away the bear. 

If you see or encounter a bear, you are asked to call the authorities.
