The Ralph C.Wilson Jr. Foundation announced Wednesday that it will make a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross of Western and Central New York to help people affected by the November lake effect storm in the Buffalo area.

While this grant was announced, the Foundation also says it is a transitional period, and will only be approving a limited number of grants for 2015. The trustees will instead be looking ahead to long-term grants for 2016.

In a release, the Foundation says it expects to be funded with more than $1 billion from a trust created by the late owner of the Buffalo Bills.  His wife, Mary Wilson, says they look forward to giving to the communities of Buffalo and Detroit, two areas he deeply cared for.
