The 2016 season has kicked off for the Queen City Bike Ferry, and this year the experience will be a bit more refined for the tens of thousands of people who use it this summer.

A brand new landing site has been built on Buffalo’s Outer Harbor.  The $825,000 landing replaces a group of existing boat docks.  It includes a paved pedestrian pathway, benches, and improved signage.

"The bike ferry provides easy transportation from Canalside to the Outer Harbor and NYPA is proud to be a part of this revitalization," said NYPA Chairman John R. Koelmel.

Officials hope to break last year’s record of more than 50,000 riders.  Passengers will again board the 50-ft vessel from the Commercial Slip dock at Canalside.  The ferry carries passengers and bikes across the Buffalo River to the new landing on the Outer Harbor, for a total of about seven minutes.
