7 Eyewitness News recently aired the story of local Viet Nam veteran Jack Michel and his struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It was a personal battle that took Michel to the brink of suicide until the combat veteran was able to get treatment through the Western New York VA Healthcare System.

Fearing there could be other veterans who are suffering with the same disorder, especially younger veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Buffalo VA is reminding all veterans that it has a number of programs that can help veterans and their families who are dealing with PTSD.  Officials emphasize that information collected for treatment remains confidential - not even shared with the Department of Defense.

The VA provides more information about PTSD through its website.
