BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — There's a new warning about a scam surrounding face masks that are supposed to protect you from coronavirus.

The Better Business Bureau says many face masks are sold out at both local stores and at online retailers like Amazon, resulting in online retailers selling phony face masks.

In addition to counterfeit or low quality masks, some retailers might not send you any face masks while potentially stealing your credit card information.

The Better Business Bureau mentions the following tips

  • Be savvy about product claims
  • Be sure the online store has working contact info
  • Check with your doctor before buying
  • Only buy from reputable stores and websites
