Preparations underway for Wednesday's National School Walkout

Preparations underway for Wednesday's National School Walkout

It's been nearly a month since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where 17 students and faculty members lost their lives.

Since that shooting in Parkland, Florida survivors and students across the country are turning their grief into activism and advocacy.  Part of that effort is a national school walkout planned for Wednesday, March 14th.  More than 2,500 walkouts are planned including ones in the following local schools and districts:

  • Kenmore-East (Town of Tonawanda)
  • Lancaster
  • Amherst
  • Niagara Falls
  • Depew
  • Hamburg
  • St. Mary's (Lancaster)
This is what students are hoping Congress will do as a result of Wednesday's walkouts:
  • Ban assault weapons
  • Require universal background checks before gun sales
  • Pass a gun violence restraining order law that would allow courts to disarm people who display signs of violent behavior.
