An accident took out five power poles on Lake Avenue in Hamburg, putting some 12,000 people in the dark.
The crash happened Friday afternoon between Abbott Road and McKinley Parkway, bringing down power lines. Few details are known about the accident.
It took NYSEG around three hours to restore power to 95 percent of the area. Due to the heat, crews could not restore power all at once. It would cause the new lines to burn out. Power had to be restored incrementally.
Crews continued to replace lines to restore power to the remaining 5 percent, which was primarily commercial businesses located near the downed lines.
Power has since been restored and the roadway has reopened.
