A new buyer is eyeing the former Tonawanda Coke site.

Tonawanda Town Supervisor Joseph Emminger tells 7 Eyewitness News a firm from out of state is in talks with the bankruptcy court about acquiring the site.

Tonawanda Coke filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month. The River Road facility is in the process of shutting down after a long legal battle over its environmental violations.

Emminger says the new potential buyer says it would assume 100% liability for any environmental cleaning.

Tonawanda Coke is still in bankruptcy court, and the site cannot be sold until a bankruptcy court makes a final settlement.

Supervisor Emminger says the sale could be years down the road.
