"Porch Pirate" protection ideas

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season - which now sees a growing number of people using the internet to purchase gifts.  However, the problem of people stealing packages from doorsteps is also increasing as "Porch Pirates" snatch-and-run.

How can you protect yourself from "Porch Pirates?"
