Pope Francis has an idea for how to solve the Catholic Church's Clergy shortage. He's considering allowing married men to enter the priesthood.

The pope brought the idea up in an interview with a German newspaper. However, this wouldn't apply to single men who are already priests.

We reached out to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo to get its take. The Diocese declined to issue any statement at this time.

7 Eyewitness News spoke to several catholics at Buffalo Irish Center. Most were receptive to the idea. Others worry about losing tradition.

"There's definitely a need for more priest. How to go about it I'm not sure what the solution is. But the church is suffering from a dearth of priests right now," Mike Pizzuto said.

"The parish where we live there is only one priest. It's very difficult for him to do everything that needs to be done. We need priests, more and more priests all the time," Mary Ellen Reilly said.

Reilly even said she would like to see a woman as priest one day.
