Police in the City of Tonawanda had to wrangle nine ponies Tuesday night after they escaped from their pen at Canal Fest.

According to authorities, a downtown beat officer noticed two ponies near the McDonald's drive thru area just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Other officers responded and discovered nine ponies in various sections of the downtown area roaming around.

The officers were able to guide all of the ponies back to their pen at Canal Fest with the help of the person in charge of them.

Police don't believe anyone let out the ponies on purpose -- they believe that one of the ponies was reaching for tall grass and unlatched the gate of the pen in the process.
