A kayaker who was rescued by the Erie County Sheriff's Marine Unit was turned over to Canadian Police after police say he stole the kayak he was rescued in.
The Sheriff's Office was called to the Niagara River near Unity Island Sunday afternoon for the report of a kayaker in distress. The man told police he was a Canadian citizen who had permission to use the kayak, and didn't intend to enter U.S. waters.
Police say their investigation showed that he had stolen the kayak from a home along the Canadian shore. He was turned over to Border Patrol officers who turned him over to Canadian authorities.Have a news tip, question or comment?
