Buffalo State Police say an assault was reported on campus Sunday morning.

Police notified the campus community of an investigation into the incident that happened in Lot R-14 just before 3 a.m.

According to University Police, a male resident student said he was attacked from behind and stabbed in the back. The victim says he did not know who attacked him or what weapon was used.

Police say the incident is likely connected to a fight at an off-campus party near the intersection of Reese Street and Forest Avenue overnight while students returned to campus.

The victim has been treated and released from Erie County Medical Center.

Police do not have a description of the suspect at this time.

City of Buffalo Police are assisting Buffalo State University Police during the investigation.
