Police targeted 36-year-old Christoper Herron's home after an investigation into a number of crimes, including burglaries and drug use.  In addition to the 282 plants, police found nearly 50 stolen property items hidden around the home that police were able to link to burglary complaints in the Town of New Hudson and Cattaraugus County.  They also found processed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Herron was arrested and charged with Burglary, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Growing, and Criminal Drug Use among other charges.  He was arraigned in the Town of Friendship Court and taken to the Allegany County Jail.
