University at Buffalo officials are warning students after an early morning robbery at an off campus apartment.

Around 4:30am, Thursday, two men forced their way into a student's apartment on Winspear Avenue, according to Buffalo Police. A picture with this story shows one of the suspects.

The suspects stole a backpack containing computer equipment and then fled the scene. The victims in this case are students who attend the University at Buffalo South Campus.

UB officials add that Buffalo Police have seen an increase in burglaries in the University Heights neighborhood over the past month. With that in mind, students are being urged to follow a few pointers to keep themselves safe.

  • Students who leave the area for the winter break should ensure that all windows and doors are securely locked before they depart, and valuables are not visible from outside. Leaving lighting on is recommended.
  • Students renting apartments off campus should also arrange for a landlord or a friend to check their apartment periodically and remove mail while they are gone.
  • Report any unusual circumstances or suspicious persons and activities to the University Police at (716) 645-2222.
