A man who is seen in a surveillance video sneaking into a gas station convenience store and robbing the clerk at gunpoint has been arrested.

Christopher Dam, 26, of Hyde park was taken into custody Friday and charged with first degree attempted robbery and second degree criminal use of a firearm.

State Police say Dam is responsible for robbing the Citgo gas station in Staatsburg, which is in Dutchess County, last Tuesday night.

In the terrifying surveillance video, you see a man come from the side of the building, walking hunched over to avoid detection, with a mask covering his face and a shotgun in his hand.

The man enters the store and points the gun at the clerk, demanding money. The clerk begins filling a white plastic bag with cash, but when the gunman tries to reach into the register, the clerk makes a daring move and tries to grab the suspect’s arm.

The suspect quickly retreats and points the gun at the clerk, who attempts to take cover behind a rack on the counter. He throws an object at the man, hitting him in the head, and then gets even more bold.

The clerk rushes from behind the counter and slams into the gunman, whose weapon is pushed into the air. They go tumbling outdoors where the gunman fires a single shot, hitting the ground.

The gunman flees to his waiting vehicle with the clerk in hot pursuit. As the gunman drives out of the parking lot, the clerk walks back inside to pick up the cash that flew everywhere when he tried to tackle the suspect.

The video was posted to social media and State Police say that led to Dam's arrest. He is being held without bail.
