Newspaper deliveryman allegedly stole package

A newspaper deliveryman is accused of stealing a package from a mailbox.

State Police arrested Thomas Knight, 50, of Middleport on Wednesday and charged him with petit larceny.

Troopers say he stole a package from a mailbox that contained a jacket worth approximately $100.

He’s due back in court next week.

Police departments across Western New York issued a warning to residents, warning them to watch out for thieves stealing packages - even on Sundays.

If you can't be there when packages are delivered, police recommend asking a trusted neighbor or family member to pick them up, have them delivered to their home instead of yours, or, if your workplace will allow it, having them delivered to your job.

The U.S. Postal Service says package delivery will continue on Sundays through Christmas Day in larger areas, such as Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Jamestown.
