A man who tried to bribe his friend to take the fall when he was caught with a gun will be going to jail for at least five years.
In February 2015, Peter Kohler brought a revolver to a birthday party. The intoxicated 23-year-old Buffalo resident accidentally fired the gun in his pants and then tried to walk home. A friend came along, took the gun from Kohler and walked home with him.
While walking, Kohler and his friend were stopped by police. The friend was charged with possession of a revolver.
But based on DNA evidence, phone records and police work, authorities determined the gun belonged to Kohler, who was charged. During his four-day trial, jurors heard phone calls between Kohler and his friend where Kohler attempted to bribe his friend to take the fall.
A jury found Kohler guilty of second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Kohler, who was on probation for a previous weapons conviction, now faces a minimum of five years in jail when he’s sentenced next month.
