Man steals jar of change worth just under $1,000

Posted

A homeowner knew his jar of change, worth just under $1,000, was stolen when he returned home to find broken glass and coins.

The man found the damage on January 7 outside his home on Wass Road in the Town of Middlebury. He called deputies, who investigated and identified 32-year-old Aron Timothy of Middlebury as a suspect.

Deputies located video surveillance of Timothy returning a large amount of coins at two stores in Batavia shortly after the theft.

Timothy was interviewed and deputies say he admitted stealing the jar of change from the victim, who is an acquaintance. He accidentally dropped the jar of change just outside the home.

Timothy was arrested Monday and charged with second degree burglary and petit larceny. He’s due back in court next month.
