A Buffalo man who was training dogs to fight is going to prison for up to four years.

Edward “Boo” Bishop, 54, was convicted in January of animal fighting after a non-jury trial. It's the second time he's been convicted for this crime. In 2010, he pleaded guilty in federal court to sponsoring an animal in an animal fighting venture.

Bishop along with several others, including a City of Buffalo employee, was arrested in a raid in April 2014. Bishop had several pit pulls, dog fighting literature, a training manual for dog fighting and other dog fighting paraphernalia in his home.

During the trial, an expert testified that four of the dogs had injures from fighting. Another expert testified that Bishop was training dogs to fight in his basement.

Up to four years in prison is the maximum sentence Bishop could receive.
