Man pleads not guilty in fatal Colden crash

Authorities say speed and drugs had role in crash

A Holland man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges related to a high-speed crash that left one man dead and a woman severely injured.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office said 19-year-old Kody Schroeder was driving at an extremely high rate of speed on Center Street in Colden when he crashed into a pickup truck that was making a turn.  The crash killed 28-year-old Chauncey Kloiber of Wales, and severely injured 19-year-old Tabitha Trautwein of Holland. Trautwein remains at Erie County Medical Center with a traumatic brain injury.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office said that Schroeder had an impairing amount of marijuana in his blood at time time of the crash.

Schroeder pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree vehicular manslaughter and second degree vehicular assault.
