A 21-year-old man faces an assault charge after state police say he bit off his father's finger during a brawl outside an Orange County tavern.

Troopers say a highly intoxicated Christopher Clarke of Greenville started to fight with other members of his party when they were leaving the Dark Horse Tavern in Slate Hill around 11:25 p.m. Friday.

His father, 44-year-old Christopher Clarke, tried to restrain his son. Police say the young man bit off part of his father's right index finger. The severed finger wasn't recovered.

Both Clarkes were treated and released at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. The younger man was arraigned on an assault charge and sent to Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail, pending a court appearance on Monday.
