The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found in Lake Erie near Woodlawn Beach Wednesday evening.
Jet skiers called for help around 6:40 p.m. The Sheriff's Marine Unit located them about 1.5 miles away from the shore and deputies were able to recover the body and load it onto the Sheriff's boat.
Detectives, crime scene investigators and the medical examiner searched the body for identification but were not able to find one.
The Sheriff's Office says the body was very decomposed, but it looks like it was a white male with some facial hair. He was wearing a black, possibly leather jacket, jeans and socks but the clothing was deteriorated and falling apart.
The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner of death and attempt to identify the individual which may take several days.
