A man in custody at the Niagara County Jail is facing attempted murder charges after investigators say he tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Benito Lendof-Gonzalez was in custody on unrelated charges. A lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau prompted authorities to indict Lendof-Gonzalez on multiple counts of first- and second-degree attempted murder.
Lendoff-Gonzalez was arraigned Friday in Niagara County Court. He was remanded without bail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 1.
