A man who deputies say was trespassing in a park after hours didn’t get far when he allegedly tried to flee the scene in his rental car.

Around 3:30am Wednesday, deputies spotted a car in the Black Rock Canal county park after hours. Deputies tried to stop the driver, but say he drove around their patrol car and left the park, going onto Niagara Street.

But deputies say the driver failed to make a turn, hitting a curb and deflating both front tires.

The driver, 24-year-old Christopher Clerk of Niagara Falls, was caught following a brief foot chase, but deputies say his passenger managed to escape.

Clerk is charged with resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, unlawful fleeing a police officer, trespassing, and other violations.

The rental car was towed and impounded.
