A father is facing charges after a crash last October that claimed the life of his 4-year-old son.
Kevin McCabe, 32, of Belfast is charged with first degree vehicular manslaughter in the death of Tristan McCabe. He was killed on October 8, 2015 in a crash on Rt. 16 in Sardinia between the pickup truck he was riding in and a tractor trailer that was attempting to make a right hand turn.
Tristan’s cousin, 8-year-old Katie McCabe, suffered injuries, including a broken leg. Kevin McCabe, 32, suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The sheriff's office says Kevin McCabe was arrested after weeks of investigation that included using video evidence from nearby homes and businesses and evidence at the scene. Investigators also say McCabe had an illegal narcotic in his system at the time of the fatal crash.
In an update two months ago, a GoFundMe page setup for the family said Kevin McCabe is “doing well and appreciates all the love and support he has received.”
The page has raised nearly $14,000.
