Police say a 27-year-old woman fled officers, flagged down a motorist and attacked him, then fled at a high rate of speed, hitting multiple cars and a school bus.

Last week, police in Lackawanna were called to Knowlton Avenue for a woman said be acting in an irrational manner. When officers arrived, police say India Cummings fled.

She ran to South Park Avenue, where police say she flagged down a driver who stopped to see if she needed help. Officers say she punched the 57-year-old man in the eye and yanked him out of his vehicle, then sped off at a high rate of speed.

Police say she hit several cars, including a school bus from the Hamburg School District, then rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a red light at Rosary Avenue and Ridge Road.

Officers broke the vehicle’s window and take her into custody, though they say she was violent while being arrested.

Cummings is charged with second degree robbery, third degree criminal possession of stolen property, third degree grand larceny, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, second degree obstruction of governmental administration, second degree harassment and resisting arrest.

One officer needed medical attention after injuring his hand during the ordeal.
