A Rochester man convicted of shooting a Rochester Police officer in the back of the head is currently in custody at the Erie County Holding Center.
According to our ABC-affiliate 13WHAM in Rochester, 22-year-old Tyquan Rivera was taken into custody last month for parole violation. Rivera entered the Holding Center on January 11, 2017, after failing to meet his parole-mandated curfew and failing to notify his parole officer about a change in residence.
Rivera was recently released from prison for the 2009 shooting. Rivera was only 14-years-old when he shot Officer Anthony DiPonzo on Dayton Street in Rochester, so he was tried as a youthful offender. He was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 10 years in prison and was conditionally released in July with a GPS tracking device.
Officer DiPonzio survived the shooting and returned to the force in November 2011.
