An intoxicated man wanted on parole got into a fight outside a bar, drove away, refused to stop for police, then fought with officers when they tried to arrest him, according to Orchard Park Police.
Officers were called to the bar around midnight but by the time they got there, the fight had ended. An employee told police the men had left in heading south on Orchard Park Road.
Police spotted the described vehicle and say the driver was driving recklessly. Officers attempted to pull him over but say he refused to stop until eventually turning into a driveway, where the driver doesn’t live.
The driver, 24-year-old Samuel Beavers of Angola, appeared to be intoxicated, according to police, and admitted drinking alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, police say they tried to arrest Beavers but he fled.
Officers chased him through several back yards and caught up to him, which is when they say Beavers fought with them, kneeing one of them in the face. After a brief struggle, Beavers was taken into custody.
Beavers, who was on parole, is charged with second degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, DWI and several vehicle and traffic violations.
The officer he injured was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.
