Alleged drunk driver hits semi following him

Posted

An East Amherst man was allegedly driving drunk when he hit a semi and fled, and then later purposely crashed into the semi.

Last Thursday, State Police say the driver of the semi called 911 to report he had been struck by a Dodge Ram and the driver had fled. He then began to follow the truck on the NYS Thruway.

Troopers say the driver, 48-year-old Kevin P. O’Leary, realized he was being followed and purposely struck the semi. O’Leary’s vehicle suffered significant damage and became disabled.

When troopers arrived on scene, they say they found O’Leary was intoxicated with a BAC of .28 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, second degree reckless endangerment as well as multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

No one was injured.
