Deputies say a driver was drunk when she crashed at 2:30pm Friday, after which she fled into the woods.

The sheriff’s office was called to Rt. 77 in the Town of Alabama after the crash. And on hearing that the driver and passenger had fled into the woods, they requested a K9 unit.

The State Police and Erie County Sheriff’s helicopter circled the air while deputies and their K9 companions searched the area. After two hours, they found the driver, Sabrina Brownell from Little Genesee, NY.

Brownell was arrested for DWI and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries.

An hour later, deputies found her passenger, Ralph Forte of Rochester. He was found walking along Rt. 77, south of the wooded area.

Forte was also taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for facial injuries.

Additional charges are pending against both Brownell and Forte.
