The Cattaraugus County Legislature approved a measure to give $25,000 to the SPCA Wednesday to help the organization pay for the care of 600 animals seized from Painted Meadow Farm in Farmersville.

The animals remain at the farm but are under the care of the SPCA. Donald and Bonnie George are facing 24 counts of animal cruelty following a raid in February.

The raid happened after a Cattaraugus County highway employee noticed a horse was down in a field near the Elton Road farm. More than 600 animals are at the farm, including sheep, horses, turkeys, chickens and ducks.

Several dogs have been taken away that the SPCA says didn't have proper shelters or licensing. The horse that sparked this investigation had to be euthanized.

This isn't the first time Bonnie George has been accused of neglect. In 2005, 44 horses were taken from her property for inhumane conditions.

The SPCA is asking for food donations for the over 600 animals due to this investigation. Call 716-372-8492 for more information on how you can help.
