Two men are facing charges over a 12-year-old victim who was sexually abused in the Town of Hume, but it’s unclear if the victim is the same in both cases.

State Police have been investigating John Wesner, 40, of Hume since May 9th regarding the sexual abuse and rape of a 12-year-old in the Town of Hume.

Wesner was recently arrested based on evidence gathered by troopers and charged with first degree rape, first degree incest and first degree sexual abuse. He was taken to Allegany County Jail without bail.

Also recently arrested is 47-year-old Herman Hassell of Nunda. State Police have been investigating him since May 10th, also involving a 12-year-old victim in the Town of Hume.

Hassell is charged with possessing a sexual performance of a child and endangering the welfare of a child. Possessing a sexual performance of a child is a charge that means, if guilty, Hassell had in his possession content "which includes sexual conduct by a child less than sixteen years of age."

He’s being held on $25,000 bail.

7 Eyewitness News is reaching out to State Police to see if these two cases are connected.
