The Erie County Sheriff's Office says an Amherst man was arrested after deputies found about a pound of marijuana and a large amount of cocaine during an early-morning traffic stop.

Two deputies pulled over 31-year-old Mark Patterson on Whitehaven Road near the 190 around 1:10 a.m. Monday.  Police say they pulled him over for vehicle violations, and when they searched his car they found the drugs.  Patterson is now charged with felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance.  He's also charged with three vehicle and traffic violations.

He's being held at the Erie County Holding Center and will be arraigned in Grand Island Town Court.
