Plastic bags will be sticking around in Erie County. For now.
The County Legislature unanimously voted down a proposal to study the viability of banning plastic bags from retail and grocery stores. That plan would cost $75,000.
“The Legislature does not support spending $75,000 of taxpayer dollars on a plastic bag study, especially at a time when we are dealing with health crises and more important priorities,” Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo said.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz is in favor of a plastic bag ban. He says he will find another way to pay for the study.
