Plans for new Hertel Ave restaurant in limbo

Posted at 11:28 PM, Jan 27, 2016

Deep South Taco has been open in Downtown Buffalo for almost three months, and has been wanting to open a second location on Hertel.

According to Deep South Taco's owner Richard Hamilton, some people at the meeting were concerned about parking, noise, an outdoor patio and the smell of the restaurant.

Hamilton says the business is willing to work with the Hertel community on these concerns.

He's taking the vacant gas station on the corner of Hertel and Starin and developing it into a modern and urban taco joint that he says will fit in with the rest of the Hertel strip.

"It just seems that people in opposition are trying to have it both ways," said Hamilton. "They want the growth, they want the vibrancy, they want things to change...but only the things that they deem worthy. Sometimes, change comes in lots of different ways, and it may not be what you agree with but that's the beauty of change."

Hamilton is hoping Deep South Taco lovers will come out to a community meeting on the Hertel issue Tuesday, February 2 at the North Park Community Center. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.
