Pedestrian hit at Niagara Falls Boulevard intersection

A Tonawanda man was taken to Erie County Medical Center late Tuesday night after he was hit by a vehicle at Niagara Falls Boulevard and Maple Road in Amherst.

The Amherst Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit reports 34-year-old Anthony Rauch was struck in the north side of the intersection just before 11 p.m. Investigators say Rauch was walking east to west across Niagara Falls Boulevard, and was struck in the third lane. Rauch was in or near the crosswalk at the time of the crash, but police say he was not crossing with the light.

The vehicle was heading north at the time of the crash. The 20-year-old driver has not been charged, and the incident is still under investigation. Investigators report the intersection was dark and the pavement was wet at the time of the crash.

Rauch suffered a serious leg injury as well as injuries to his head. He was taken to ECMC.
