Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says a passenger in a car was found to be in possession of crack cocaine after the 16-year-old driver was pulled over for a traffic violation.

Deputies say the driver was pulled over on Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood. Deputies found the vehicle's registration was suspended.

The passenger, Joseph Thayer, 40, had one-half ounce of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana, according to officials. Deputies say Thayer also had packaging materials and an amount of cash consistent with narcotic sales.

Deputies arrested Thayer and charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

He is being held in County Jail without bail.
