Be careful where you park. Buffalo parking ticket fines are going up.
Beginning Wednesday, parking violation fines will go up $5 to $10 per an approved request by the Common Council in July.
The city was waiting until the old tickets with lower fines were used up to implement the higher fees. Now that the old tickets are gone, the new ones are in play.
These are the first parking ticket increases in 15 years and are expected to bring in an extra $1 million a year.
The city is also working to upgrade its meter parking to use pay-by-cell. The hope is that paying with smartphones via a free parking app will alleviate parking violations. This is expected to begin in the spring and will be in addition to standard meters.
