Opioid epidemic task force meets Monday

Posted

Earlier this month, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz issued an executive order, establishing an opioid epidemic task force to help combat the growing addiction problem in Western New York.

The task force will meet for the first time Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in Cheektowaga.

Poloncarz says the number of opioid related deaths have skyrocketed in 2015. He says the addiction problem is not getting any better, and this is the next step in combating this problem.

The task force will be comprised of elected officials, healthcare professionals, police officers, those battling the addiction and community members.

The force hopes to get more information out on the growing heroin epidemic and the dangers of these opioid drugs.
