OP boy wins world soap box derby championship

Posted

Western New York is home to a world soap box derby champion. His name is Dylan Swanson. The 9-year-old from Orchard Park took home a monster trophy last Friday for the Super Kids division in Akron, Ohio.

The super kids division of the soap box derby is just for kids who are physically or mentally challenged. Dylan is autistic. So is his brother, Ryan. He won his first race this year in Rochester.

The trophies are great. But, Ryan and Dylan’s Mom says it’s about much more.

“I don't even know how to explain how excited he is. I think he feels like he can accomplish anything right now,” said Jamie Swanson about Dylan.

Dylan will get a chance to defend his championship next year.
