Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown cut the ribbon Monday for the official re-opening of Ohio Street linking development in the Queen City.

“Now, vehicular traffic will have an easier time between Buffalo's inner and outer harbor,” said Brown.

Along with connecting projects in the city, the 1.4 mile stretch of road has major development directly on the street, including a new pavilion and multi-use bike path, LED Lighting and big projects like River Works. The $11 million project is 70 percent complete at this time.

Thomas Dee of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation said the Ohio Street project complements existing development on the waterfront.

“Canalside has been an unbelievable success. Now we want to move this to the outer harbor; this is the link. We talked about all the great things in the city and I call that synergy, synergy on the water,” Dee said.

The entire project is expected to be completed by the spring. Officials said they hope that this inspire further growth and bring people and money to the area.
