Officer shoots suspect in South Buffalo

A hostage situation in South Buffalo Friday afternoon ended with an officer shooting a suspect.

It happened at 660 McKinley Parkway, near Como Avenue, according to Buffalo police.

Officers said a 34-year-old gunman fired several shots inside the home, and at least one outside. They said the gunman then came out of the house with a shotgun and a woman, and refused to drop the gun. That's when an officer shot him.

The suspect was rushed to ECMC for surgery. As of 10 p.m., Buffalo Police say the suspect is out of surgery and is listed in critical condition.

The woman who was taken hostage is now safe.

BPD internal affairs is now investigating the officer's actions. The officer has not been identified at this time.
