A Cheektowaga Police Officer is recovering from a concussion after he was attacked while breaking up a fight between two teenage girls.
The officer was in the Walden Galleria on April 8 when he says a shopper came up to him to report a fight. When the officer got to the fight, the two 16-year-old girls were already punching one another.
Police say the officer ordered the girls to break it up, but they did not stop. As he stepped between the two to try and stop the fight, other youths with the girls attacked the officer from behind, according to officials.
The officer says one person bit him on his hand, breaking the skin and causing him to bleed. Another kicked him and a third hit the officer over the head with a heavy object, according to police.
The original two girls involved in the fight were arrested. Both were charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Arrests and charges of the others involved is unknown at this time.
Police say the officer is currently out of work. They say he is being treated for his concussion and an infected bite on his hand.
Anyone with information about the incident or the unidentified youths is asked to call Cheektowaga Police at 686-3505.
