With a multi million dollar repair project scheduled to start this spring, there's once again debate about the future of the Skyway

"This has to happen" New York State Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Susan Surdej tells Seven Eyewitness News.  "this is planned rehab we need to do to continue the ensured safety of the Skyway."

However Congressman Brian Higgins thinks the Skyways Time has Passed.  "The Buffalo river has become a recreational corridor.... the need to maintain this monstrosity is gone."

Higgins is calling for the DOT to consider scaling back improvements, but the DOT plans to proceed with over $27 million in upgrades.

Constriction is scheduled to begin early 2018, traffic patterns will be changed to accommodate construction.
